From Chaos to Calm — Parenting That Feels Right

Hey Reader,

This week, parental burnout has been everywhere in my conversations. That place where you’re touched out, overstimulated, and utterly exhausted. Too overwhelmed to even start the endless to-do list.

With summer holidays in full swing, I hear it over and over:

  • The noise never stops
  • The decisions pile up: what to do, where to go
  • Sibling fights, whining, big emotions everywhere
  • That nagging feeling you’re somehow getting it wrong when it’s anything but wonderful

Sound familiar?

One of my favourite ways to clear this chaos? Journaling.

But it’s not just any journaling.

I was chatting with my amazing client, Sal, this week. When I asked if journaling was new to her, she said something brilliant:

YOUR way of journaling is new to me! But I’ve journaled for years.

I hadn't realised that! I thought we all did it my way! But it turns out there are SO many ways to journal.

Sal had been using journaling to brain dump all her swirling thoughts and feelings... which... helps release overwhelm. But the next step? Using journaling to empower action, to see beyond the noise and find clarity... that was missing.

This is a big part of reparenting yourself:

To accept your feelings without drowning in them - and without pretending they’re not there.

You learn to sit with your emotions, understand them, and then choose your next step from a place of calm and control.

If your summer feels like too much right now, try this:

Light a candle. Put on your comfies. Grab your journal.

And ask yourself:

  • Where can I see joy today?
  • Where am I getting in my own way?
  • What would I like to create more of — and what’s one small step I can take toward that?
