Hi Reader,
So... I found myself in a full-on stand-off at the side of the bath recently. One of those "how did we get here?" kind of moments. You know the ones... where everything unravels faster than you can stop it, and you're left feeling like the worst version of yourself?
Yeah. One of those.
This week’s podcast episode is all about that moment. Not because I’m proud of it, but because it’s real, and I think we need to be more open about this side of parenting.
But as important as it is to own the messy bits - it’s what comes after that really matters.
In the long game of raising emotionally healthy kids, repair is one of the most powerful tools we’ve got.
- It’s not about never messing up (impossible).
- It’s about how we reconnect after the rupture.
That’s where the trust is built. That’s where we teach our kids what accountability, safety, and love really look like.
So even if you don’t get a chance to listen to the episode, here’s something to take away today:
✨ Knowing what to say is only half the job.
✨ Knowing when to say it is everything.
A few questions to sit with:
- What does healthy repair look like in your family?
- When and where does it go best?
- What helps ease the tension so you can actually connect?
For kids... sitting face-to-face doesn't always work - especially with older kids or teens. But maybe:
- Taking them for a drive where no one's making direct eye contact
- Kicking a ball around in the garden
- Slipping them a gentle “Hey, I’m sorry about earlier. Want to talk later?” note
- Bringing them a hot chocolate and a colouring book to do together
Tiny things. Big impact.
If all you do today is reflect on how and when repair happens in your home, you’re already moving in the right direction.
And if you do want to hear the whole messy bathtub story and how we found our way back... here’s the link to listen. #NoJudgementPlease
